Basic Photoshop Projects Lessons
You will begin learning a new program entitled Photoshop. This program allows you to manipulate pictures in many different ways. Today we are going to learn some easy tricks that the pros do every day. You will be saving EVERYTHING into your folder. If you fail to do this, I will delete it and you will not get a grade. The files will all be in the “ASSETS” folder. PLEASE go to “SAVE AS” before you begin each assignment. ALL assignments will be named BP Project, you adding the project number and your name. Below is a diagram of all the tools you can use. Here we go! First Thing that you need to do is create TWO folders; one in your video drive on your computer and another in google drive. Look for the folder titled “ASSETS” in Google Classroom and download to YOUR folder.
Project #1-The $20 dollar photo
Open a picture (you choose) from the folder named “Assets”. Adjust the saturation (Ctrl + u) to turn the photo black and white. SAVE AS this project in your folder as: BP project#1_your name.
Project #2-The $60 dollar photo
Open a picture (you choose) from the folder named “Assets”. Make a duplicate of the picture. Turn the duplicate black and white. Now use the eraser tool and erase just the colors you want to see. SAVE AS in your folder as: BP project#2_your name.
Project #3- Picture in an iPod
Open a picture (you choose) from the folder named “Assets”. Use the move tool and copy (Ctrl + c) your picture. Then click on the “iPod” picture and paste (Ctrl +v) your picture into it. Use the transform tool (Ctrl + t) to adjust your picture until it fits into the “iPod”. SAVE AS in your folder as: name of pic_project#3_your name.
Project #4-#8-A picture in an ipod Touch
Open six pictures (you choose) from the folder named “Assets”. Then open all FIVE of the “iPods” (numbered from 1-6) from the folder named “Basic Photoshop Projects”. Use the move tool and copy (Ctrl + c) each picture (the ones you picked) into each of the “iTouch iPods”. Make sure you paste them there. Then use the transform tool (Ctrl +t) to adjust each picture until they fit into the “iTouch iPods”. SAVE AS in your folder as:

Project #9- Statue of Liberty Puzzle (Using Layers)
Open the “liberty” picture from the folder named “Assets”. Use the move tool to put the puzzle together. SAVE AS in your folder as:
BP project#9_your name.

Project #10- One hand, Now Two!
Open the “john” picture from the folder named “Assets”. Use the marquee tool and select the left side of “john’s” face. Copy this side (Ctrl+ c). Then paste it (Ctrl+ v). Then use the move tool to move the new layer to the right side of his face. Then go to edit >transform>flip horizontal. SAVE AS in your folder as: PB project#10_your name.
Project #11- Look! No hands!
Now with the same picture activate the background layer. (Click on it to turn it blue) Use the marquee tool again, but this time select the right side of his face and copy it. Then use the move tool to move it to the left side. Then go to edit >transform>flip horizontal. SAVE AS in your folder as: PB project#11_your name.
Project #12- Caricature Effect
Open the “john 2” picture from the folder named “Assets”. Use the move tool to grab the blue line and move it to the center of his face. One side will be smaller than the other. Use the marquee tool again, but this time select the narrow side of his face and copy it. Move it to the other side and then go to edit >transform>flip horizontal. Then use the crop tool to get rid of the extra piece. SAVE AS in your folder as: PB project#12_your name.
Project #13-Painting Road Signs
Open the “signsline” picture from the folder named “Assets”.Your task is to color the pictures exactly as they are shown on the PDF “SignsEND”. On the first three signs you are going to use the paint bucket tool to color the stripes, lines, arrows and bus black. Remember to use the zoom tool to magnify each sign that you are painting. If you need to make them smaller click hold the alt key when using the zoom tool . On the rest of the pictures you are going to use the magic wand to select the areas that you want to color. Use the wand to select the area and then click the swatches palette to change the color to what you need them to be. Then use the paint bucket tool to fill in the circles and boxes. SAVE AS in your folder as: PB project#13_your name.
Project #14-New Clothes
Open the “jockeys” picture from the folder named “Assets”.
Step ONE
You will need to rotate the picture (image>rotate canvas> 180) before you begin working on it. Then you will need to paint over the words on the page. Choose the white as the color for your brush then use the paintbrush tool to paint over the letters. This is a scanned picture so you need to change the picture so that you can design the sweaters they way you want. (Image>mode>RGB)
Step TWO
Some of the sweaters have gaps in the drawing; you need to fill those in. Create a new layer (Layer>New>Layer) name it “cheat”. Then use the paintbrush to draw in the gaps. Then click on the magic wand and in the option bar click “sample all layers”. Next click on the background layer and fill it with the colors you want. When you have finished; delete the cheat layer.
Step THREE
You can add a gradient color to the sweaters if you want by doing the following. Change both color boxes to the colors you want. Then pick the magic wand and make a selection of a sweater. Next pick the gradient tool and use the mouse to drag across the front of it. Now continue with the remaining sweaters. SAVE AS in your folder as: PB project#14_your name

PROJECT #15-Change Color of Clothing
Sometimes you don't like the color of something you are wearing. Here is just one of the ways to change the color of clothing. Open a picture (you choose) from the folder named “Assets”. Watch the video below and follow along.
